I used the DNNCreative tutorials to install the HouseMenu and use it in a skin I developed on my local machine using DNN 4.9. When I installed the HouseMenu and my skin on a DNN 5.x site hosted by WebHost4Life things don't work. the response I get from DNNCreative is:

DotNetNuke Version 5 was released first in December. It looks to me as if the House of Nuke Menu and related things were last updated in July of 2007. So, it would not surprise me at all if the HoN Menu doesn't work with DotNetNuke 5.
When in doubt, I would recommend that you check with the House of Nuke developer. He should know, or should be able to offer you advice.

So, I'm asking for advice.

Is HouseMenu as popular as DNNCreative leads me to believe? If so, then I am surprised that DNN would release the 5.x version that would break any site that uses HouseMenu. I am just as surprised that HoN would not be quickly responding with a version that is compatible with DNN 5.x

Does anyone have a suggestion of another good menu that does support DNN 5.x? The Snapsis Nav Menu looks good. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Any advice for a newbie is appreciated.

1) Is HouseMenu as good as DNNCreative leads me to beleave one of the better menues the best

Hello,

I have done some further investigations as a few people were posting in the DNN Creative forum with problems.

I have found a solution and can get HouseMenu 1.4 to work with DNN 5.0.1, here is the solution with all of the steps:

Hope this helps, thanks,

Thanks, Lee, for taking this on and finding a solution. Unfortunately, I have very little time to dedicate to HouseMenu, and the little time I do have is going toward HouseMenu 2.

Hello Tim - many thanks firstly for releasing HouseMenu - the v1.4 skin object has been a great tool over the years! See this site for example, which makes great use of it (with custom menu behaviour scripting): http://www.haybridge.worcs.sch.uk/

As I'm sure you're aware, there are some issues running HouseMenu with DNN v5 - for example, in v5.42, the icons don't display for admin menu items, because these are now expressed as paths relative to the root (e.g., "~/images/icon_lists_16px.gif"), but HouseMenu thinks they're relative to the home dir, so inserts that path before.

I completely understand that you don't have time to fix issues like these. Is there any chance though that you'd consider making the skin object source available (completely unsupported of course)? This would allow us to apply our own fixes (and share these with others if you'd like).

I hope you'd consider this option, rather than let this once-trusty bit of code be put out to pasture?

Kind regards, Ben
